Islands of etarnal spring.
It might seem a contradiction to have this spring
like climate in the neighbourhood of the northern coast of Africa.Whilst
other regions with the same latitudes as the Sahara or the Arabian
Dessert are known for their extremely hot summers and cold winters,
the temperature on the archipelago is normally between 16°
and 23°C, and the temperature of the water between 18°
and 23°C.
The trade winds and a cold stream, called the Canary stream,
are responsible for the few variations of temperature. In summertime
the warm and dry trade wind from the high of the Azores –
deflected by the earth rotation – blows as the northern
east trade wind in the direction of the Canary Islands. Before
arriving at the coast it takes some humidity and cold from the
Canary stream and so reduces the heat. In wintertime the position
of the Canary Islands themselves guarantees a mild climate. |
